Death Proof was one half of an experiment by directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez to create a double feature of throwbacks to the old 1970s exploitation films called Grind House.  The experiment ultimately failed at the box office.  While the films garnered strong critical praise for their sheer creative campiness, audiences have been trained to turn away from an almost four-hour-long movie experience.  So on DVD, they remain alone - with much more palatable timing.  While being the second film in the double feature line-up, Death Proof is the first to hit the street in a 2 disc special edition.  This quirky little car-themed flick follows Stuntman Mike (Russell), a sociopath that likes to hunt down young girls with his muscle car.  I have to admit, the first 75% of the film is a little slow and the actors can't quite handle the Tarantino dialogue to it's fullest.  But the last twenty minutes, starting with the famous car chase scene, is nothing short of spectacular and makes up for any preceding shortcomings.  The DVDs have lots of stunt-based documentaries, but missing is a commentary by Tarantino and the fantastic trailers seen in the original film.
