No Reservations - Leftovers Never Taste As Good

No Reservations   B-

Starring Catherine Zeta-Jones, Aaron Eckhart, and Abigail Breslin

Directed by Scott Hicks (Shine)
Rated PG for some sensuality and language
Appropriate for ages 8+

The Story: Based on the German film, Mostly Martha, No Reservations
follows a famous female chef (Zeta-Jones) that has her life turned upside down when her sister dies in a car crash, leaving her to care for her young niece (Breslin).

The Good: This is a very sweet story full of good teary-eyed moments throughout.  The performances by the entire cast are convincing and the flow of the film provides for quick and easy entertainment.

The Bad: Had I not seen the original 2002 film, Mostly Martha, this would have probably been a better experience for me.  Unfortunately for the new pic, the old one is so much better.  It was one of my favorite movies of that year and the memory of it outshines it's predecessor.  I suggest renting it for a great DVD night instead of going out to see it and spending much more money.

Much of the new tale seems contrived and with dialogue like "I wish there were a cookbook for life" you can't help but get slapped in the face with cliché.

The Summary: This pic could make for a good date night, but renting the original would make for a better one.
